Picking what to wear for photos can be hella stressful! We're no fashion experts, but after many-a-photoshoot, we've come to learn some things that work and some that don't regarding clothes! We've put together a few guidelines to help make sure you're totally comfortable & looking your best while still keeping the focus on your love and not your outfits. These are by no means rules – just guidelines! We ultimately want you looking like yourselves, and if that goes against every guideline we have – well, you better go against 'em!
Most people feel the need to get super dressed up or to buy new clothes for their shoot – We kind of advise against either! We believe engagement photos are a chance to document the two of you as you are during this crazy fun time of life, so we want you to look like your normal selves however you normally dress! Is that a tshirt and ripped jeans? Yes, please. Floral print dress and sandals? Perfect. We recommend clothes that are "broken in," so you're focused on each other and not on your stiff jeans or uncomfortable top.
First off, we recommend bringing options! We love variety in our shoots, so multiple outfits is totally welcome. Just keep in mind, the more time spent changing outfits, the less time we have for photos. To get the best results, we'll pick and pull from the options you bring to best match the location we're shooting & make sure the focus stays on you guys, not any distractions- which can yes, sometimes be your outfits. Most people bring 4-5 tops each and 3-4 bottoms plus any dresses, hats, jackets, etc. Not every location has a private bathroom to change in, so if you're not comfortable changing in the car, just bring one outfit! You can totally text a few options to Alyssa to make sure everything will look good!
About the weather... If it's going to be hot, don't wear a sweater! If it's going to be cold, make sure you're wearing a sweater! We want you to be totally comfortable, which is way more important than how cute any article of clothing is.
About color... We recommend neutrals & earthy tones every time. Neutral doesn't just mean black, white, gray, and brown. There are neutrals to every color – Think: mustard yellow, navy blue, forest green, etc.
About patterns... Stay away from chunky, loud, or crazy patterns. Flannels are always a yes, but anything else can be too distracting from your faces! We avoid pairing too many patterns together, because again, it can be pretty distracting.
About accessories... We love them! Hats, scarves, jackets, jewelry. They add a ton of the variety we were talking about earlier!
About props... Our minds immediately go to giant letters, chalkboards, or anything from Hobby Lobby. They're distracting and don't add much to your love story! BUT – Props can be great as long as they add to YOUR unique story! For example... Ray loves his moped. I love a fresh bouquet of flowers. We both love sitting on a blanket next to a campfire. If you want to add something similar, let us know! Totally fine to keep things simple and skip the props, too.
YOU DO YOU – We promise the photos will turn out GREAT!

We love unique locations and locations that are unique to you! If you have an idea- let us know! We love hearing new ideas we may not know of or thought of. We also have a lengthy list of places ourselves, so you can have one of those! If you're in Tennessee – Some of the most beautiful places are a bit of a drive outside the city – We're not afraid to travel if you're not!
We want to eat a meal or get a drink with you guys before we start the photos! We love connecting with our couples and building a friendship so that when its photo time, we're all comfortable with each other! For the best light, we like to shoot two hours before sunset. SO... If possible, we ask that you block out about three hours before the sun sets to meet up & take photos!
First of all- Don't act! Take a deep breath, relax, and get cozy with your love. If you're doing something weird or out of place, we'll tell you!
"I'm sure you hear this all the time, but seriously- I am NOT photogenic."
We DO hear this all the time, and we seriously get it. We've been photographed ourselves enough to know what it feels like. We tell you what to do, where to put your hands, which way to look... We even play games that help you forget you're being photographed!
